Japan loves its supernatural creatures. If you are a fan of Japanese manga and anime, you must have heard the name of yōkai. These monsters, ghosts, and goblins are out there to entertain or scare with their sinister and mischievous acts.

Japanese folklore is one of the richest among all countries and Yūrei (ghosts) are important figures in those myriad folk tales. From ancient periods to modern times, Japanese myth, literature, art, and theater are rife with references to numerous supernatural figures, monsters, and spirits. 

Everyone knows Japan for its rich culture and weird social and cultural customs. But the country has a creepy side too, led by numerous toshi densetsu (urban legends). Unlike superstition-based lore of yurei (ghosts) and yokai (mythical apparitions), urban legends are circulated as true.
